Parkour for Paxton: A Community Effort to Help a Young Boy Overcome His Greatest Obstacle

Imagine watching your child lose the ability to run, jump, or even walk without help. For most parents, movement is something we take for granted in our children—their ability to explore, play, and experience the world through motion.

But for Paxton, a young boy from Murrieta, that reality is slipping away.

Paxton has been diagnosed with a rare genetic mutation on his CLCN6 gene, a condition that causes severe developmental delays, epilepsy, poor motor coordination, and hypotonia. Over time, this mutation leads to neurodegeneration, meaning Paxton’s ability to move and function could continue to decline.

His parents have spent years searching for answers, undergoing test after test, only to be told that there was no treatment, no cure—just the promise of monitoring his condition as it worsens.

But instead of accepting that future, they decided to fight. Paxton’s family has discovered that gene therapy could be the key to stopping or even reversing the effects of his disorder. Working with researchers at UMass Chan Medical School’s Horae Gene Therapy Center, they now have a real chance at developing a treatment. But this kind of cutting-edge research doesn’t come cheap. The family needs to raise $1.5 million to fund the development and testing of a gene therapy that could change Paxton’s future forever.

At Freedom in Motion Parkour Gym, we believe that physical, mental, or emotional obstacles are meant to be overcome. Our mission is to teach one million people not just the sport of parkour, but the deeper lesson that you are capable of more than you ever imagined. Whether it's learning to vault over a wall or overcoming a personal struggle, our gym is dedicated to empowering kids and adults alike to face challenges head-on.

That’s why we’re hosting Parkour for Paxton, a fundraising event to help his family reach their goal and give Paxton a fighting chance at reclaiming his freedom of movement.

Join us on Sunday, March 2nd, at 9 AM or 10 AM for a special Introduction to Parkour session. For just $30, you and your family can learn the basics of parkour in a fun and safe environment guided by our expert coaches.

100% of the proceeds from this event will be donated directly to Paxton’s medical fund. This is an opportunity to not only challenge yourself with something new but also to make a real difference in a child’s life.

The journey toward a cure is already underway. A partnership between The Jackson Laboratory, UMass Chan Medical School, and researchers in Berlin, Germany has been formed to study this rare genetic disorder.

The first steps include creating a mouse model to better understand how the CLCN6 mutation works, a process that will take about a year. From there, researchers will develop a gene therapy vector to correct the mutation, with clinical trials expected between 2025 and 2027.

If successful, Paxton could be among the first children in the world to receive this life-changing treatment.

But they can’t do it alone. We need our Murrieta and Temecula communities and the Freedom in Motion Parkour Gym Community to step up and help in any way possible. If you can’t attend our Parkour for Paxton event, please share this blog, tell a friend, or donate directly to Paxton’s fundraising campaign.

At Freedom in Motion, every person we help counts toward our goal of impacting one million lives. Helping Paxton is one more step toward that mission. Let’s come together and show that, no matter how big the obstacle, we can overcome it—together.
